There’s an app that predicts what you’ll look like as you age
Retinoids, antioxidants, and of course, lots of sunscreen: We take our goal of having great skin years down the road seriously. So when an app comes along and promises to tell us what we’ll look like 20, 30, even 40 years from now, well, like everyone else who’s ever stayed up late using one of those questionable “see how you’d look in this celebrity’s hair” tools, we were skeptical. But like anyone who’s ever used one of the makeup filters on Snapchat, we were also intrigued.
The online app, called AgeMe by AprilAge Inc., was designed in association with Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York, to help highlight one of the problems caused by smoking—the effect it has on your skin. So you can at least feel better about playing around with the digital age enhancement knowing that it’s trying to make you more health conscious (unlike some other apps).
In addition to showing the effects of smoking, the app, which can age anyone up to 70 years old, can also show the effects of sun exposure and weight gain thanks to a database of 3-D head scans from real people across a wide range of ages and ethnic profiles. Just upload your photo and the app applies traits from its database showing you what your lifestyle could do to your skin in the future.
